Conservation and heritage sites require particularly sensitive management. We work in collaboration with stakeholders to deliver projects that reflect the historic context, landscape and biodiversity of each location.
We aim to provide solutions which protect both our natural and historic sites, while ensuring that, through careful and appropriate management, those sites thrive for the benefit of generations to come.
Conservation
Conservation

Corylus Ecology provides strategic and detailed advice for the management of nature conservation within the context of historic and ecologically sensitive landscapes.
We are fully aware of the need for ecological advice to be tailored to suit site-specific objectives for the protection, maintenance and enhancement of a site’s uniquely inherent values set within its wider landscape context. In this regard, we are strong and committed advocates of collaborative working with landowners, conservation organisations, private estates, charitable trusts and national parks to ensure knowledge of the site’s ecology is not only understood within its own right, but is also pertinent to revealing its overarching archaeological, heritage, landscape and access values.
Planning is formulated through the evaluation of:
- baseline survey data;
- stakeholder consultations;
- identification of ecological constraints and mitigation responses;
- opportunities for enhancement as part of scheme design;
- long-term management objectives;
- monitoring & auditing protocols.

Ecologists at Corylus Ecology have extensive experience in the provision of ecological and biodiversity advice to inform the development of a range of conservation management plans for historic sites.
We have worked with built heritage conservation charities, local authorities, parochial church councils, architects and private landowners on a range of heritage sites. Plans are developed through a collaborative process involving heritage, landscape and visitor and access managers.
