Sector: | Residential development |
Project type: | Householder extension |

Client's requirements
Corylus Ecology was asked to undertake an ecological appraisal and detailed bat surveys in relation to a private householder application for a single-storey extension to a Grade II Listed farmhouse.
Our solution
The survey results revealed that the house supports several roosts of different species of bat. The results guided the next stage of the process, which involved designing mitigation and enhancements to ensure the proposals could be carried out in a way that maintained the bat roosts without having a detrimental impact on the design of the extension.
Following completion of the surveys, our team worked in collaboration with the architects and owners to produce a report for submission with the planning application. Once planning permission was in place, a European Protected Species Mitigation licence from Natural England was applied for and put in place to enable the works, which were supervised by a licensed bat ecologist.
