Client's requirements
Joyden’s Wood is a 135 hectare ancient woodland near Dartford, maintained by the Woodland Trust. It is home to a wide range of flora and fauna across its varied habitats.
We were asked to survey an area of heathland habitat within the wider Joyden’s Wood complex requiring baseline surveys, assessment and recommendations for management and maintenance.
Our solution
We provided a number of services to assess, and plan for the management of, this ancient heathland:
- UK Habitats classification and mapping of the heathland.
- Biodiversity Net Gain condition assessment of all habitats present.
- Protected species assessment.
- Breeding bird assessment of the heathland and wider Joyden’s Wood site.
- Heathland management and maintenance report and plan provided.
We also supported the Woodland Trust with stakeholder engagement. This included a heathland presentation and management training provided for both funding and volunteer teams onsite.
Our work has made a valuable contribution to the Woodland Trust’s five year plan to secure this ancient woodland, enabling native species to thrive across its various habitats, and providing safe visitor access to the site.
