Client's requirements
Heather Wood is an area of fragmented woodland and arable land in Hawkhurst, Kent, acquired by the Woodland Trust for habitat restoration, creation and conservation. We were asked to provide a full assessment and management plan to support the Woodland Trust’s development of this site.
Our solution
We delivered a full assessment and detailed plan of the site, including:
- UK Habitats classification and mapping of all habitats.
- Biodiversity Net Gain condition assessment and calculation of all habitats present.
- Biodiversity Gain Plan and Habitat Management and Maintenance Plan for this conservation project.
- Protected species assessment.
- Specific protected species surveys for: reptiles, great crested newts, dormouse, small mammals, bats, badgers and invertebrates.
Our work has provided vital information to guide the Woodland Trust’s development of these valuable habitats. Their ongoing work at this site, which includes plans to plant 10,000 trees, is creating ideal conditions for nature to recover and thrive.
